“The discovery of the endocannabinoid system is the single most important medical scientific discovery ever and will save more lives than the discovery and application of sterile surgical techniques. I’m a heart surgeon saying that.”
— Dr. David Allen
How CBD Works
The human body utilizes a complex regulating system called the endocannabinoid system. CBD effects the system by blocking enzymes that usually break down the cannabinoids that the body produces; CBD also stimulates the opioid center in the brain that controls pain and serotonin release, which is a large part of mood regulation. The CB2 receptors that are mainly affected are located in areas like the: Gut, Kidney, Pancreous, Skeletal system, Muscles, Immune System, Reproductive System, Eyes, Liver, Respiratory System, Skin, Central Nervous System and the Heart. The three main methods of absorbing CBD are through consumables, topicals and smokables.
Terpenes
Terpenes are an organic class of compounds that play a much larger roll then just determining a plants scent profile. They also deliver a number of therapeutic and medicinal benefits. This miraculous plant houses more than 100+ terpene compounds found in well known healing and aromatic plants. A few examples of these are Pine, Basil, Citrus, Peppermint, Lavender, Mango, Thyme, Lemongrass & Many More.
Dosing
The amount of CBD a person should take is determined by a multitude of factors like the persons weight, body chemistry, method of ingestion, condition being treated, and the potency of the product. A good place to start is around 30mg of CBD a day and then increasing by increments of 5 until the desired effect is attained; a person with severe conditions should start at higher doses from 50-100mg and then gradually increase the dose from there.
Concentration
It is very important to understand concentration in order to properly dose products like tinctures. The CBD amount on the label is typically an indication of the CBD content in the whole bottle; in order to dose properly you must calculate the amount in a drop or a dropper full. For example a 30ml tincture contains around 600 drops that are .05 ml in size or 1 ml per dropper full. If the total CBD content is 1,000 you divide that by the 600 drops or 30 ml to calculate the exact concentration which would be approximately 1.67 mg per drop or 33mg per dropper.
History of Hemp
Hemp being utilized for its medicinal and material properties dates back to ancient Egyptian times where for hundreds and thousands of years this crop was used as a healthy means of regulating, supporting and healing the body. These compounds have been found in many Egyptian mummies and are depicted in hieroglyphs as a miracle crop meant to regulate the human body.
Lost in Time
Due to this crops versatility and ability to replace a large number of products, pharaohs and kings alike for hundreds of years have hidden the practices and benefits of these "Miracle Crops" and are only just now resurfacing and being put back into proper use.
